Details
WHITCHURCH URBAN C.P. DODINGTON (south-west SJ 5441 side) 8/65 Cherwell House 1.5.51 GV II
House, now divided. Circa 1800. Red brick with hipped 2-span slate roof. L-plan. 3 storeys. Painted chamfered sandstone ashlar plinth, painted stone first-floor cill band, deep eaves cornice with mutules, and central one-bay triangular pediment. Dentil brick eaves cornice at rear. Integral brick end stacks, except for external brick stack at rear to left. 3 bays with central break; 16-pane glazing bar sashes with painted stone cills and gauged-brick heads. Central 4-panelled door with centre beading, 5-part rectangular overlight and doorcase consisting of moulded architrave and large consoles supporting cornice. Wrought-iron railed enclosures to front replaced in C20. Interior not inspected. A short section of wall with doorway links the house with the former service block to the right, now No. 27, Dodington (q.v.).
