IGHTFIELD C.P. CALVERHALL SJ 63 NW 6/8 Forecourt walls and - gate piers adjoining Cloverley Hall to north- west GV II

Forecourt walls and gate piers. Circa 1870, by William Eden Nesfield. Red brick with grey sandstone ashlar dressings. Rough L-plan. Low walls with double-chamfered plinth and chamfered coping. Former wrought- iron railings now removed but standards and stanchions with ornamental spandrels survive. Brick piers with chamfered plinths, moulded-brick ribs forming grid to sides, and pyramidal stone caps with trumpet finials. Pair of larger gate piers to north-west with carved brick discs, stylized flowers and armorial devices, and pyramidal caps with billet ornament and pineapple finials. Wrought-iron gateway to garden at south-west corner. The section of the wall adjoining the house to the south is dated 1927 and was built when Cloverley Hall (q.v.) was partly demolished at that time.
