Details
CHAFFCOMBE CP WHITEMOOR HILL (West side, off) ST30NE 4/7 Outbuildings about 15 metres north-east of Avishays, and wall linking same to house - GV II
Outbuildings, original function unknown, now in use as studio. C18, possibly 1759, as it matches the dated north crosswing of Avishays (qv). Red brick in Flemish bond with Ham stone ashlar dressings; hipped Welsh slate roof. Single- storey, 3 bays x 1 bay. Principal elevation to west, facing house, has plinth, rusticated quoins; the outside bays have beaded mullioned and transomed 2-light windows with shallow architraves, the centre bay has a pair of 5-panel doors in matching architrave, with pediment hood on console brackets. Matching window in south end wall. Link wall probably C20, with plain piers flanking pair of painted wooden gates, one with wicket, and with a semi-circular arched niche to either side of gateway, adding to setting of both house and outbuilding; the interior of the latter not inspected.
