ST 7747 NE 10/143 Gate pier on corner 31.1.74 junction with Wesley Close II

2. Early to mid C19. Stone gate pier, the only one remaining of 4 entrance gate piers which were the only part of a scheme by Thomas Bunn (prominent local solicitor) for a grand Crescent to rival Bath's Royal Crescent. Circular plan, rusticated between 4 plain pilasters, moulded capital on console brackets with raised dies at intervals, each carved with an anthemion motif.
