Country house. Circa 1826 by John Pinch for James Fussell. Bath stone ashlar, hipped slate roof behind cornice and parapet, ashlar stacks. Rectangular, plain Classical facade. 1:1:1 bays, centre bay of 3-storeys, outer wings 2-storeys; sash windows with glazing bars; ground floor windows of outer bays in shallow semi-circular headed recesses with impost bands; above openings blank with false glazing bars, sill band. Broad semi-circular headed central door opening, double 6-panelled doors, upper 2 panels glazed, with side lights and fan lights all in a fluted surround. Semi-circular Roman Doric portico on 2 pairs of columns, and pilasters, low ornamental wrought iron railings around top. One storey hipped roofed wing of one bay to right side, door opening, 4-panelled door. Ground falls away to rear which is basemented, 3-bays, full height semi-circular bow to centre bay. Window openings have further low decorative railings on their sills. Interior retains doors, fireplaces, decorative plasterwork and staircase. (Robin Athill, Old Mendip, 1964).
