Toll gate and piers. Probably C18, restored. Wooden 6-barred gate with 2 sets of diagonal strengthening struts. Top bar with scrolled wrought- iron cresting. Bulky octagonal piers, that to left with wrought-iron capping incorporating hinge which continues across the top of the gate, being attached to the cresting. Part of the Wells Turnpike Trust; the gate was situated at Mead Toll House on the road between Glastonbury and Street. Metal plaque on South side giving historical details.
