10/47 Gateway and gate at North West entrance to Churchyard, Church of St Mary -

GV II

Gateway into churchyard of St Mary's (qv) from West Street. Late C18. Red sandstone ashlar with white limestone dressings, about 3 metres high. Single arched opening, flat topped, cornice damaged on right, quoins with rusticated surround to opening, white limestone archivolt, chamfered corners to archivolt and jambs, keystone, white limestone plinth. Wrought iron gate, arched to fit opening, simple uprights, one damaged. Similar doorway in wall (qv) across West Street.
