Details
ASTON UPTHORPE THORPE STREET (East side) SU5586 Stockwells Cottage 7/47 II GV
House. Probably late C16 with early C18 front to left and early C19 to right. Small timber framing with red brick infill to left; red brick to right; old plain-tile roof, half-hipped to right, hipped to left; brick ridge stacks to left and right of centre. 2-storey, 4-window range. C20 door to left return. Irregular fenestration of C20 metal casements except wooden oriel windows on brackets to ground floor left of centre and first floor left and left of centre. Noted as having probably late C16 cruck truss. (J. Fletcher, "Crucks in the West Berkshire and Oxford Region" in Oxoniensia, Vol.33 (1968), p.71-88).
