Lodge, walls and gates to Wallingford Cemetery
(Formerly listed as Cemetery Lodge and gates and wall to Cemetery, Castle Street)

Lodge. c.1860. Flint with ashlar bands and dressings; Welsh slate pyramidal
roof; concealed central stack to apex of roof. Square plan. Cottage ornee style.
Single storey and attic; 2-window range. Plank door with 2-centre arched doorway
and gabled porch having parapet and kneelers to right return. Fenestration of
paired lancets with transom and quatrefoil panel to heads. Gabled dormer with
paired lancets and decorative bargeboards to each side of roof. Interior not
inspected. Wall: red brick with knapped flint and ashlar panels. Mock
crenellations, machicolations and decorated piers at intervals. Encloses the
cemetery which is approx. 150m. by 120m. Gates to south of lodge: buttressed
gatepiers with cusped cross-gabling and finials. Paired central wrought-iron
gates and single outer pedestrian gates of regular floral decorative panels.
Forms part of a very good cemetery complex.
