School and teacher's house. c.1847. By Joseph Clarke for William Gibbs. Squared uncoursed stone; old plain-tile roof; various stone stacks. Classrooms form range with house to rear: Gothic Revival style. Single-storey, 2-window range with projecting central tower. Double plank doors to 2-centred arched doorway at base of tower. 4-light stone mullion windows to left and right. 3 trefoil lancets to upper stage of tower. Clock to apex of tower. Gabled roof to school, cross-roof to tower with wooden bellcote having spire and weathervane. Teacher's house to rear has complex plan. Irregular fenestration of stone mullion and transom windows. Complex roof. Interiors not inspected. Single late C19 bay addition to left of classrooms, in same style. William Gibbs of Tyntesfield was the brother of G.H. Gibbs. Lord of the Manor, and paid for the chapel at Keble College, Oxford. (V.C.H.: Oxfordshire, Vol.7, 1962, p.26).
