TQ 734 446 MARDEN GOUDHURST ROAD (west side)

3/44 Turkey Farm House 18.12.86 II Farmhouse, now house. C15 or early C16, partly rebuilt in C17 and with late C18 or early C19 facade. Timber framed. Ground floor red and grey brick in Flemish. bond, first floor weatherboarded. Plain tile roof. Late C15 or early C16 right end bay, framed as flush cross-wing, and probably the storeyed right end bay of a former open hall. Rest of house rebuilt in C17 with lobby entry plan of two timber-framed bays flanking stack. 2 storeys and garret on brick plinth. Underbuilt jetty to right side and (present) rear gable end of right cross-wing. Half-hipped roof. Brick ridge stack between central and left end bays, and truncated projecting brick stack to right gable end. Irregular fenestration of 4 casements; one three- light to left, two three-light to right, and one single-light beneath stack. Boarded and half-glazed door beneath stack. Lean-to to left gable end and to rear to left. Interior: exposed framing. Chamfered axial beam and joists and plain brick fireplace with bressumer to each C17 ground floor room. Blocked first-floor diamond mullion window to left gable end. Right cross-wing has rear dragon beam to ground floor, first-floor left side partition wall with foot-braced central stud; chamfered posts and wall-plate, and cambered central tie-beam with solid-spandrel braces. C17 clasped- purlin roof over all, with diminishing principal rafters, vertical queen struts to rafters under collar ends, and occasional straight windbraces.
