House pair and shop, probably formerly an inn. C16, with later alterations. Timber framed, rendered, with plain tile roof. Left return elevation chequered red and grey brick to ground floor, weatherboarded above. Stack bay towards centre, with 3, storeyed, timber-framed bays to right of it, that to right end subdivided, and approximately 2 to left, that to left end possibly framed as cross-wing. 2 storeys. Plinth graduated with slope of land. Continuous jetty, slightly lower to left end, with painted wooden fascia board. Boarded eaves soffits. Roof hipped to left with gablet, hip returning. Brick ridge stack towards centre, and central ridge stack to left return wing. Irregular fenestration of 5 windows; 2 tripartite sashes to left of stack and three 3-light casements to right. Two 4-pane sashes to left return elevation. Canted bay window to left end of ground floor, with tripartite sash to right of it. 3 bay-windows to shop to right of stack. Panelled door under half-glazed porch up 7 steps to centre of left return elevation, to South View. Panelled door up 4 steps under main-range stack, to East View. Panelled door up 3 steps and half-glazed door up 2 steps, between bay windows to right of stack. Projecting wooden bar to first floor, carrying shop sign. 2 short conjoined rear wings to main range. Interior: only partly inspected. Exposed framing to right of stack, with moulded cross and axial beams to ground floor and gunstock jowls to principal posts. Arch-braced tie-beams. Said to have crown-post roof.
