and The Dog and Bear Hotel. GV II
Two buildings, now Shop and Hotel. C15 or C16, with early-to-mid C19 facade to Stores and mid-to-late C19 facade to Hotel. Timber framed core. Painted brick ground floor and weatherboarded first floor to Stores, painted brick front to Hotel. Continuous plain tile roof, eaves of Hotel projecting slightly further. 2 storeys, with cellar to Hotel, on plinth. 4 red brick stacks; one ridge stack off-centre to right of stores, one small ridge stack at junction between Stores and Hotel, stack in rear slope of roof to left of centre of Hotel and slightly projecting stack to right gable end of Hotel. Stores has regular fenestration of 2 glazing-bar sashes and central canted first-floor bay window. C19 ground floor shop front flanked by gabled pilasters topped by decorative iron fleur-de-lys, 6-light plate-glass shop window with light painted iron arcading and central recessed half-glazed door. Door with 4 recessed panels and rectangular fanlight immedi- ately left of shop front. Hotel has irregular fenestration of 6 sashes. Corniced balcony to centre of ground floor supported on 4 iron columns with plain capitals and tall scrolled brackets. 2 half-glazed doors beneath balcony. Short rear wing to Store with hipped plain tile roof. Interior: evidence for jetty and for cross-passage with moulded joists, on ground floor of Dog and Bear. Rest of interior not inspected.
