Stapleford (east side) 6/47 Shepherd's Cottage
II
Shepherd's cottage, now a house. Mid C19 with mid C20 additions. Ironstone with limestone ashlar dressings and Westmorland slate roofs. Chamfered plinth, string course, moulded eaves, coped and crowstepped gables with kneelers, jettied first floor. Paired single ridge and single lateral stacks with octagonal stalks. 2 storeys, 2 bays. L-plan. West front has to right, a chamfered pointed doorway and to left, a 3 light mullioned and transomed casement with a cellar opening below it. North side has to left, a large mullioned and transomed casement and to right, a gabled wing with a 4 centred arched door. Above, to right, a 3 light mullioned and transomed casement. South side has to left, a gabled wing with a mullioned and transomed casement on each floor. In return angle to right, a C20 lean-to addition with 2 casements. East gable has a cellar opening and above it, a mullioned and transomed casement on each floor. The gable is topped with a pedimented single bellcote. This building was designed as a shepherd's lodge forming part of the outbuildings of Stapleford Park.
