BRANT BROUGHT ON AND STRAGGLETHORPE CHURCH STREET SK 95 SW 6/23 (west side) 23.8.67 Belle Vista, Gates and Gatepiers (formerly listed as Lister House) GV II* The address shall be amended to read: CHURCH WALK (west side) Lister Place, Gates and Gatepiers In the descriptive notes the following sentence shall be added at the end: "The remaining garden walls to the south are not of special interest".

BRANT BROUGHTON AND STRAGGLETHORPE CHURCH WALK SK 95 SW (west side) 6/23 Belle Vista, Gates and Gatepiers (formerly 13.8.67 listed as Lister House) GV II* House. c1720. Brick with ashlar dressings. Plain tile roof with 4 gable stacks. Stone coped gables with kneelers. Plain ashlar quoins, plinth, first and second floor bands and coved eaves cornice. T-plan. 2 storey plus attic. 5 bay east front with slightly projecting central bay topped by a tall pediment. Central doorway approached up 2 semi-circular steps, has plain ashlar surround with narrow staff moulding topped by segmental pediment. Double C19 half glazed doors with 3-light overlight. Either side, 2 original glazing bar sashes with 5 similar sashes above and a single similar sash in the pediment. All these windows have plain ashlar surrounds. The pediment is flanked by single gabled dormers with small sashes. South front of 3 bay projecting rear wing has 6 original wooden cross windows with iron casements under segmental brick heads and 2 gabled domes above. A low single bay wing projects beyond. Interior has a fine contemporary single flight return wooden staircase with 3 turned balusters per tread. A moulded plaster, segmental hall arch with keystone and a fine panelled room with alabaster fireplace. The brick, attached and ramped, ashlar coped garden walls have centrally placed iron gates with plain brick gatepiers with moulded ashlar bases and caps.
