Syston Old Hall
II
Small country house; C17 with major alterations of 1830. Coursed
ironstone and limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins. Hipped
slate roof with lead dressings, with two moulded stone ridge stacks.
L-plan. Two storey irregular six bay south front with first floor
stone band. Two advanced bays with pediment containing 1830 date stone
and surmounted by cross fleury. Doorway off centre to right covered by
ashlar porch with four centred arch, gothick glazed door and sidelights.
6 irregularly positioned glazing bar sashes with flat lintels and slightly
emphasised keyblocks. On the east front is a copy of an elaborate late
C16 porch, but probably of 1830 date, (cf. Harlaxton Manor). Arms of
de Ligne family above in strapwork cartouche. Though the inner moulded door
arch appears to be C17. West end has C19 ashlar bay window with three
plain sashes.
