Bank, 1896 by Grayson and Ould, Water Street block replaced 1934 by Palmer and Holden. Granite. Three storeys, five symmetrical bays. Ground floor rusticated with centre doorway and four windows, all with round arches, on polished red granite plinth. Giant fluted Doric columns in antis to first and second floors. First floor has balustraded balconies to five rectangular windows with architraves and cornices (centre one with segmental pediment). Top floor has five smaller windows. Banking hall with segmental barrel vault to central aisle supported on engaged acanthus column of marble. Bronze doors with gaping lion masks. Long return of nine bays to Fenwick Street with round-headed ground floor windows, the tympana carved with Celtic interlace.
