12/190 Maltings at Towngate House Farm

G.V. II

Former maltings, now store. Late C18 with minor C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. Collyweston slate roof. L-plan, the oasthouse is at one end and at right angles to the main range. 2 storeys plus attics, 5 bay front. Single planked door under timber lintel, has to right 3 two light casements. Beyond the oast house has a single planked doorway and a narrow blocked light. To first floor are 3 two light casements, and a C20 opening to the oast house. All openings have flat stone arches with narrow key stones. At eaves level are 3 hipped dormer windows and a doorway. Interior. The oast house retains its shaped roof and the maltings has a heavy oak floor to the attic. John Goodale, who built the adjacent house, was described as a maltster in Whites 1856 Directory.
