6/12 The Forge

II

Former school, now cottage. 1819 with C20 alterations. Red
brick with steeply hipped concrete interlocking tile roof having
central ridge stack. 2 storey, 3 bay front with corbelled out
eaves and off centre door with to left a C20 plain 2 light
casement and to right glazing bar sash. To first floor, 2
glazing bar sashes to eaves. Ground floor openings have
segmental brick heads. A plaque recording the foundation of the
school in 1819 by George Lill for 20 poor boys, is preserved at
the later primary school in the village.
