1/17 Stable block at Kenwick Hall
II
Stable block. c.1892. Red brick with brick and limestone ashlar dressings. Hipped plain tile roof with 4 large and 2 small ridge stacks. Chamfered brick plinth and moulded brick eaves. U-plan with brick wall along fourth side. Single storey and attic. East range of 5 bays with central doorway with double panelled doors in moulded ashlar surround with decorated keystone breaking into upper pulvinated frieze, eared architrave, overlight and segmental pediment. Flanking brick pilasters with moulded ashlar bases, single rusticated blocks and Ionic capitals supporting brick pediment. Doorway flanked by 2 cross mullion casements on each side, with slightly projecting brick eared surrounds. 4 hipped dormers with 2 light casements, above. Central cupola with square boarded base with clock, octagonal lantern with round openings with imposts and raised keystones, ogee shaped lead roof with weather-vane. South front with carriage house with large moulded ashlar archway with segmental head and double plank doors. Single cross mullion casement to right. 2 two light dormers above. 6 bay north front with steps leading up to doorway to right with moulded ashlar surround, overlight and panelled door. 2 light cross mullioned window to left. 2 single light windows with transoms beyond. Another doorway with similar surround and added keystone. Single light window with transom beyond. Single dormer above to right. Loft opening to left, with partially blocked plank doors now containing 2 light casement. Iron pulley above. Walling to south has moulded ashlar coping, ramped to square gate piers with moulded ashlar bases, caps and topped with ball finials. Small inverted ashlar brackets on pilasters in inner sides of piers. Kenwick Hall is not included on this list.
