House. Circa 1600. Timber-framed with whitewashed render infill, the front and
side elevation with very fine close studding. Studs on gable ends and to left
side are arranged diagonally, with upright baluster studs between first and
second floor windows. Rear has simpler rectangular panels. Granite rubble
plinth, Swithland slate roof, brick chimneys with pairs of C19 square shafts.
T-plan, with cross passage at junction between wings. 2 storeys and attic.
2-bays to front with central passage bay, the left bay gabled and projecting.
Gables have carved bargeboards with vine trail ornament and wooden finials.
Restored oriel windows on shaped wooden brackets, with diagonal leaded glazing
and hipped Swithland slate roofs. Gabled bay has 3-light transomed windows to
ground and first floors, and 2-light window to attic. Right bay has 3-light
ground floor window and 2-light upper window, both transomed. Similar 2-light
window over door to cross passage. This door is C20 and has studs and 4-centred
wooden arch with carved spandrels, all renewed. Interior has original floor
beams, the front left bay with ovolo-moulded cross beam, the right bay with
broach stops to chamfered spine beam. Altered fireplaces.
