LONG WHATTON WHATTON HOUSE GROUNDS SK 42 SE 5/209 Chinese Koro with Three Wise Men, in Chinese garden GV II

Garden ornament in form of lidded incense-burner. Late C19. Of Chinese, or possibly Japanese origin. Bronze. Incense-burner consists of a 3-legged caul- dron with horned cap handles and relief carvings of Taoist immortals riding beasts. Pierced lid with 3 small statuettes of wise men. Octagonal stone base, part smoothly dressed, part rough. One of a series of ornaments collected for the garden by the first Lord Crawshaw c1890-1900. (Country Life, February 21st 1985, p.456).
