2. No 39: Mid/later Cl9. Rich classical style. Portland stone with polished pink and grey granite. 3 storeys plus stone dormers. 5 windows. Order of engaged Doric columns and pilasters on high base to arcaded ground storey with pediments at either end. Similar order to 1st floor with balustraded and pedimented windows. Pilastered top storey with parapet and part balustraded broken by stone dormers. Former No 42: Mid C19. Tall, narrow building with longer return elevation to St Michaels Alley. Painted stone and polished pink granite. 5 storeys, plus dormers, each with order of pilasters and smaller pilasters as window mullions.
