2. Timber framed, cruciform cover to well. (Circa 1937) C20. Herringbone brick and plaster panels. Spring discovered circa 1650. Beneath the well house is the original C17 barrel vaulted brick well chamber with brick floor and 2 shallow pools and associated pipework. Visited by Samuel Pepys on at least 2 occasions (1664 and 1667). A fasionable rendez vous for Londoners for the medicinal qualities of the mineral waters.
