Details
1. CABLE STREET E1 4431 (South Side) Nos 194 to 224 (even) TQ 3480 22/733 22.8.72. II GV 2. C18, late. Stock brick with parapet. 3 storeys and basement. Majority 2 windows. Recessed windows, mostly with glazing bars. Wooden doorcases with shaped brackets, dentilled or reeded cornices, either with plain reveals, arch and flat hood, or with pediment and festooned frieze. No 206 as above but visible windows have only vertical glazing bars. Wooden doorcase with reeded brackets and cornice, arch and flat hood. 6 panelled door. No 214 has a good early C19 shop front with 4 shaped brackets and segmental fanlight. No 220. 3 dormers in slate mansard roof. Corbelled brick band below stone coping. Wide stucco band, with cornice below top floor sills and another band at 1st floor sill level. 3 windows, modern glazing in original window spaces with segmental heads. Wood doorcase in centre with stucco surround, open pediment, plain engaged Doric columns and semi-circular fanlight. No 200 has coachway entrance to rear on ground floor. Later industrial buildings at rear of No 200 not listed.
The Dolphin Public House, Nos 192 to 224 (even) and No 230, The Britannia Public House, The Town Hall & Gate Piers form a well defined group on the South Side of Cable Street.
