BOUNDARY ESTATE

1899. Red brick, glazed on ground floor, above, red brick with orange brick banding, increasing in width to top of building. Slate roof. Four storeys and dormers and one in gables (five and attic facing Arnold Circus). Five bays at ground floor level of which four sash windows are under segmental arches. Door with semi-circular arch, chequered tympanum and narrow flanking windows with pilasters. Canted oriels from first to third floor. Between oriels, recessed vertical panel with bipartite sash windows under segmental arches with double stucco keystones. Fourth floor, bays separated by brick pilasters, windows with semi-circular arches and stuccoed tympana. Large white stucco sill band separates one bay fifth floor. Bipartite sash window. Steep gable above. Facade to Calvert Avenue seventeen windows, three sets of gables. Ground floor has contemporary shop fronts set under a common cornice.
The Boundary Estate is an early LCC estate of advanced design for its period. It contains a variety of architectural details and its streets radiate from a central raised park in Arnold Circus. The entire estate forms a group.
