The symmetrical elevation to West Hill comprises three 3-storey blocks linked by
2-storey ranges. The centre block is 9 bays wide, the lateral blocks each of
5 bays and the linking ranges each of 8 bays. The building is faced in gault
brick with stone dressings.
All 3 blocks have 3 bay advanced centres and channelled rustication to the
ground floor pierced by round-headed windows. The windows of the lateral blocks
are recessed within brick arches.
On the centre block a parapet pierced by balustrades supports a giant order of
coupled Corinthian pilasters at the outer angles both of the whole block and of
the advanced centre. The latter read as antae to 2 giant Corinthian columns
which form an open screen. This links the 2 trios of outer bays on the first and second floors. The first floor windows have cornices, the centre one on each side crowned by a segmental pediment. A massive entablature and blocking course are crowned with vase finials above the capitals.
On each lateral block the blind balustraded parapet over the ground floor carries engaged giant Ionic couumns, entablature and pediment to the advanced centre and Ionic pilasters and entablature at the exterior angles. The first floor windows have segmental pediments on consoles.
The stacks have corbelled cornices. The symmetrical south-west elevation has a
pedimented centre block with Doric porte-cochere, end-pavilions and recessed
linking ranges.
