Details

TQ 09 SE NORTHWOOD DENE ROAD (west side) 804-/38/10004 No. 7 II House. Built in 1903-04 to the designs of C. H. Townsend for the first occupant, a Mr. Harris . Red brick in English bond to ground floor; brick plinth. Tile hanging to upper floors and gable heads; some weatherboarding. Two-span roof visible to left return, roofs of tile. Two storeys. Two-window range under gable facing dormers. All gables with verge barge boards. Vernacular Revival style. All openings are flat arched with leaded light casements of an original design. Entrance recessed to the right set under stone aedicule of Tuscan order; entablature slightly bowed; plank door with studded nail heads of original design. Axial stack to right return; axial external stack to left return, which has a gable facing of one-window range with a polygonal bay below. Rear elevation has three-window range, each under a facing gable. Stack on ridge line of centre; three polygonal bays, that to the left missing some original glazing; garden door to the left of the centre bay of original design. Interior: Most of interior fittings intact, including decorated and somewhat 'Gimsonesque' plaster ceiling mouldings, tiled fireplaces, panelling, cupboards and doors with brass fittings.
