Details
TQ 2881 NW and NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER WIMPOLE STREET W1 44/28 ;45/58 (West side) 5.2.70 Nos 46 to 48 consec. GV II Terraced town house. 1770s Portland estate development, probably by John White. Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floors; slate roofs. 4 storeys and basements. 3-window wide astylar fronts. Broad semi-circular arched doorways to right with stucco rustication and Coade head keystones; panelled doors, side lights and fanlights in a plain Venetian composition. No 46 has altered ground floor windows and No 48 has c1900 tripartite stucco pilastered window with entablature in antis; recessed sashes to upper floors under flat gauged arches. Plat band over ground floor stuccowork. Parapet with coping. Scrollwork cast iron Victorian balconies to 1st floor. Plumbed spike finialed area railings and No 46 retaining original flambé urn finialed railings. Good interior features with stone geometrical staircases with wrought iron balustrades, plasterwork and statuary marble chimneypieces, etc.
