TQ 2880 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER UPPER GROSVENOR 68/69 STREET, Wl No. 15 G.V. II Terraced town house. 1732, heightened early C.19, with front receiving Thomas Cundy II dressing up 1863-64. Painted brick with stucco and stone dressings, slate roof. 4 storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide, the front framed by rusticated quoin pilasters. Entrance to right with Doric portico-porch. Recessed sash windows in stucco architraves, those on 1st floor with cornices over. Stucco string courses and plat bands; stucco crowning cornice with blocking course. Stone balustered balconettes to 1st floor windows. Cast iron area railings. Interior retains a number of original C.18 features,in particular the panelled ground floor front room with modillion cornice and chimneypiece; c.1800-20 staircase with stone treads and S pattern iron balustrade with anthemion ornament rising to 1st floor only but not in original front compartment, early C.19 rebuilt secondary stair from 1st floor; other rooms with ornate Victorian and Edwardian decoration but the 2 1st floor front rooms retain good early C.19 marble chimneypieces, that of the main room decorated with sphinxes in the Directoire-Empire taste.
