Balanced terrace of houses. Planned 1828, started about 1835. Slate mansards
(except 79). End house set forward slightly with paired giant pilasters rising
through first and second floors. 3 storeys, attic, attic mansard, and basement.
Each house 2 windows wide (No 77 of 3 bays). Channelling to ground floor.
Square headed entrances and windows. No 79 with projecting porch. Panelled
doors. Centre and end houses with first floor windows set in segmental arched
reveals. Cast iron first floor balconies of anthemion pattern. Sashes, glazing
bars, French windows to first floor. Cornice above second floor; subsidiary
cornice above third floor. Cast iron spearheaded area railings. Return to left
also of interest with attached stucco segmental headed mews arch. Planned
development. GLC plaque to No 77 commemorating presence of the secretariat of
Queen Wilhemina of the Netherlands from 1940 to 1945.
