Hospital. 1831-34 by Decimus Burton (with late C19 extensions of no interest), as part of the West Strand improvements. Stucco, slate roof. Restrained Grecian detail. 3 storeys with mid C19 attic storey plus dormered mansard, on basement. 17 bays wide in the rhythm 3;3;5;3;3, with centre and ends advanced. Ground floor with banded rustication, has central Greek Doric portico with pediment. Recessed, architraved, glazing bar sash windows. Bold stringcourse over ground floor and main entablature above 2nd floor, balustraded parapet to attic. Pedimented south return has 3 storeys and basement bowed projection with giant engaged order of Grecian Corinthian columns through 1st and 2nd floors, supporting an entablature with balustrade.
