Grand terrace of houses. Circa 1868. Thomas Cundy III. Stone (No 2 of red
brick). Tall shaped slate mansards. French Renaissance manner. Nos 4, 12, 20
and 32 set forward slightly with rusticated quoins and high mansard roofs. 4
storeys, attic mansards and basement. Channelling to ground floor. Projecting
Ionic porches with inset arches. First floor balustraded balcony. Square headed
windows to ground and first floors. Round headed windows to second and segmental
heads to third floors. Pedimented attic dormers and oval dormers above. Cast
iron balconies to second floor and window guards to third floor. Slab chimneys,
polychromed. Brick console cornice above third floor. Iron ridge ornaments.
Area balustrades. No 4 with GLC plaque to Colonel Pitt Rivers, anthropologist
and archaeologist, who lived here.
