Details
TQ 2980 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GERRARD STREET, W1 71/27 23.11.78 No. 3 G.V. II End of terrace house. 1733-34, top floor added by 1885 and repair of Gerrard Place front after war damage. Cement rendered brick with scribed coursing, concealed roof. 4 storeys. 3 windows wide with 3 window return to Gerrard Place. Mid C.20 shop fronts to ground floor. Upper floors have square headed architraved sashes with late C.18 glazing, those on 1st floor with bracketed cornices over. Parapet with coping. The Gerrard Place return has cement rendered architraved doorway with cornice, to right; central segmental arched blind 1st floor window has a pedimented plaque inscribed: "Nassau Street in Wheeton's Buildings 1734". Well known c.1800 as Saulieu's Coffee House and later the Nassau Coffee House. Survey of London; Vol. XXXIV.
