Detached town mansion. 1730 by Edward Shepherd, considerably altered late C18/early C19. Stuccoed with slate roof. Set back from road in garden. 3 storeys. 7 windows main block, centre 3 bays slightly advanced and pedimented and 3 window bowed wings at each end of front. Central projecting entrance porch with entablature flanked by 2 semi- circular arched windows - similarly arched windows to rest of ground floor. Upper floors have flat arched windows, all revealed glazing bar sashes. The centre 3 bays above ground floor have attached portico of 4 Ionic columns supporting the pediment. Plat band, moulded cornice and blocking course. Interior much altered early C19 with restrained neo- classical and Grecian detail and again early C20 with fine neo-Adam Georgian decoration but retains some plasterwork ceilings which may well be original Shepherd. Rococo work, stone staircase with wrought iron balusters, etc. Rare survival of a detached mansion in its own grounds.
