Clock Tower, Whitehead or Tower Gardens
II
1914, by Maxwell and Tuke. Gift of Henry Whitehead in commemoration of his brother Walter, an eminent surgeon. In eclectic, mainly neo-medieval style. Portland stone on stepped plinth of Aberdeen granite. Square in plan. A belfry (without bells) crowned by copper ogee roof, rises within squat corner pinnacles. One stage lower, below inward-curving cornice, are clock faces. Lower still are various niches and openings with carved decoration.
