MANCHESTER ROAD (east side) Clock Tower, Whitehead or Tower Gardens

II 1914, by Maxwell and Tuke. Gift of Henry Whitehead in commemoration of his brother Walter, an eminent surgeon. In eclectic, mainly neo-medieval style. Portland stone on stepped plinth of Aberdeen granite. Square in plan. A belfry (without bells) crowned by copper ogee roof, rises within squat corner pinnacles. One stage lower, below inward-curving cornice, are clock faces. Lower still are various niches and openings with carved decoration.
