4/22 Ridgemont House Masonic Hall - - II

House, now Masonic Hall. Early C19. Stucco with stone dressings and hipped stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 8 bays, 3-bay centre breaks forward under pediment. Sill bands and top cornice. Windows have plain surrounds and are sashed with glazing bars and horns. Central 1st floor window in recess with consoles to top cornice; pediment above has round recess. Entrance has semi-circular porch with 2 Doric columns and 2 demi-columns 6-panel door. 3 cross-axial stacks. Right return of 4 bays is similar. Rear has 3-bay bow to left hand end and entrance with inscription above; 4 lines from The Task by William Cowper referring to greenhouse, possibly indicating former conservatory. Interior has stair with iron balusters and 4 six-panel doors. Built for Thomas Ridgway, one of the founders of Walsuches Bleach Works.
