Delamer in St John's Churchyard
GV II
Chest tomb above brick vault. c1770. Stone. Rectangular plan
on a stepped base. Long sides finely carved with paired swags,
panelled ends. Battered podium lid with carved lions on north
and south sides and eagles on east and west. Originally
surmounted by an urn. HISTORICAL NOTE: Lord Delamer was a Whig
politician, appointed in 1727 as Surveyor of the Greenwax
Money. He lived at Burgh House, New End Square (qv) until 1758
when he inherited Dunham Massey in Cheshire.
