ECCLES,
WORSLEY ROAD,
Railway bridge over Worsley Road
II
Railway bridge. Late 1820s. By George Stephenson for the
Liverpool and Manchester Railway Company. Brick with ashlar
dressings. Single-span skew bridge. The segmental skew arch
with rusticated voussoirs springs from impost bands. Bands
at the head of the arch and base of the parapet continue on
the flat pilasters to either side. The curved retaining
walls and railings are also original. The south side is
obscured by a later bridge which is not included in this
entry. R. S. Fitzgerald, Liverpool Road Station, Manchester,
1980, p.19.
