NZ 05 SW CONSETT CHURCH BANK

(South side) Benfieldside 5/29 (inset) Walls, gates and piers in front of Church of St.Cuthbert GV II

Walls and piers and gates. Circa 1850 by John Dobson. Sandstone rubble walls with ashlar coping; ashlar coarse sandstone piers; wrought and cast iron gates. Coursed rubble walls have low-sloped coping and terminate in square piers with pyramidal copings. Gate piers are square and chamfered, with blind trefoil decoration in roll-moulded gabled coping. Gates have wrought iron railings with spear finials, linked by Gothic-arched bars which have flower decoration; cast-iron dogbars with spearheads.
