Details
LONG WHATTON MILL LANE SK 42 SE 5/197 Mill House and Cottage and Stables adjoining to 14.8.75 North East GV II Mill house with attached cottage and stables. House is of circa 1755, with cottage and stable added slightly late C18. Red brick. HOUSE has corbelled dentil eaves cornice, Swithland slates to front pitch, Welsh slates to rear, and brick chimneys and gable copings. 2 storeys and attic; 3 bays. 3-light wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars, the central light a horizontal sliding sash. Upper windows are transomed. Between left bays is a flush-panelled door with flat wooden cornice hood. Projecting from ground floor left bay is exten- sion with lean-to roof to mill. Rear has tall stair windows and attic windows cut up through eaves cornice. COTTAGE AND STABLE are of red brick with plain tile roof, dentil eaves and brick chimneys to cottage, and coped gable to right. Cottage is of 2 storeys with 2 bays of 3-light horizontal sashes, that to ground floor left with segmental head. Left bay has flush-panelled top-lit door, also with segmental head. Diaper vent to right of ground floor window. Stable has small rectangular windows flanking central stable door, and vent slits. Loft door with segmental head in gable end.
