Details
CRANBROOK THE STREET, (SOUTH TQ 7837-7937 SIDE), SISSINGHURST 8/255 Sissinghurst Court 19.12.85 and Entrance Wall GV II
House. C17 with large additions of circa 1920. Part timber-framed (to south- west). Red brick on ground floor, exposed close studding above. Plain tiled roof. South side: Half-hipped return wing to left (the original building) with lower gabled projection to right. Moulded barge-boards. Two storeys and garret in wing to left. Irregular fenestration of 5 windows on first floor with cornice-hood over central first floor window, and 5 windows on ground floor. Wood-framed moulded lattice casements. Tudor-arched doorway to left with moulded surround and boarded door. East (Entrance) Front: Long return wing to left, completely blank with projecting chimney breast and tall stack in angle. One window on each floor of this wing. Long dormer in east wing with gabled projection to right. Tudor-arched doorway with moulded surround, floral carvings in spandrels and boarded door to left of projection with long lattice wooden mullioned window to left. Casements with oval stained glass inserts. Lattice glazing. Service wing to right behind. Entrance wall, 15 yards long, attached to left-hand wing, with central gate piers and ball-finials. Railed gate with scrolled panels, dog-rails and decorative overthrow. Interior: some plasterwork in C20 block. Evidence of substantial timber-frame in old block.
