11/271 Boughton monument, in churchyard, about 5m south of south aisle, eastern half, Church of St. Peter and St. Paul

GV II

Chest tomb; Joseph Boughton the younger, died 1756; stone. Thick, flat lid with hollow chamfer to edge. Sides, winged head in centre, with flowers and ribbon thence across top and down ends. Main face curved back at edges to give relief to carving. Lyre ends, scrolls carved on main face, with between serpent of eternity surrounding hourglass set at bottom of panel, feathers to sides, fronds above. Scrolls circular on east end, approaching square on west. Inscription to wife on north side. Good example.
