HYDE CHURCH STREET SJ 99 SW (south-east side) Hyde 6/19 Lychgate at 1.10.85 Church of St. George
G.V. II
Lychgate. "Erected by Thomas Ferns Handford Fern Lee Hyde 1885" on eaves beam. Hammer-dressed stone walls carry the slate roof on timber posts. Octagonal stone piers reflecting those of the church (q.v.) support timber corner posts which in turn support the hipped roof and have curved diagonal braces. The ridge tiles are pierced, have small terminating finials and a central wrought iron cross. Included for group value.
