Details
SADDLEWORTH STOCKPORT ROAD SD 90 SE (west side) 5/295 Church of 19/6/67 St. Anne - II Church. 1787-88 but drastically remodelled: chancel 1888, vestry 1911 and tower c.1920. Alterations by R.B. Preston and F. Thorpe. Watershot hammer-dressed stone with slate roof. Wide nave with chancel and south-west tower. 5 bay nave now only half its former height, has projecting plinth, sill band, eaves band, eaves cornice, flat pilasters (1911) and round-headed windows with impost blocks and keystones. Coped gables with kneelers. The 4-stage tower has angled buttresses, round-headed keystone openings at each level and clock faces below a castellated parapet which incorporates a niche in each face. Venetian-style east window. Interior: semi-circular chancel arch, hammer-beam roof trusses and stained glass (east window by Miesonnier).
