Office Building. 1885-6. A.Waterhouse, the tower added 1904. Red brick and terracotta with granite to ground floor and red tiled roof. Five storeys and attic. Six bays, canted corner bay and four bays to Temple Street.
Ground floor has segmented headed windows, two with C20 shop fronts. Corner entrance with pointed arched head. First floor bays divided by paired polygonal shafts with drainpipes between them. All windows sashed without glazing bars. First floor windows segmental-headed . Second bay has granite facing and canopied niche for figure Frieze above with inscription "PRUDENTIAL ASSURANCE BUILDINGS". Second floor windows with pointed arches, first two bays paired, fourth to sixth tripartite. Third floor windows segmental headed those to second bay pointed and cusped. Fourth floor pointed arched windows. Corner bay has two-storey canted oriel on brackets; date under paired windows "MDCCCLXXXVI". Corbelled frieze and arcaded parapet, one dormer of two lights and one of three lights. Second bay has three-stage tower: the lower stage has three windows, central one with traceried gable feature over. Third stage has two balconies with blind arcading under round headed openings. Corbelled cornice with corner water spouts, swept pyramidal roof with surmounting stack. Two panelled stacks.
