TYLDESLEY
THE SQUARE
K6 Telephone Kiosk to north of Tyldesley Chapel
II
The K6 telephone box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George V in 1935. Almost 60,000 examples of the red kiosk were installed across Britain between 1936 and 1968 and were made by various contractors. The K6 kiosk pattern was manufactured with three glazed sides featuring eight rows of three panes of glass. Each row had a wide middle pane between two narrow outer panes. The back panel was blank.
The Tyldesley telephone box is a type K6 telephone kiosk, of cast iron with a domed roof. It has unperforated crowns to its top panels and margin glazing to the windows and door.
