GREAT AMWELL LOWER ROAD (west end), Iron Road Bridge over The New River II

Road bridge over The New River aqueduct. Dated '1824'. Cast iron with wrought iron balustrade. Segmental arched iron girders on each face with open spandrels with 2 circles. Raised band and central 'keystone' with date. Raised lettering on girder: 'New River Company: Priestfield's Iron Works near Bilston.' The earliest remaining bridge along The New River in Hertfordshire (Branch-Johnson (1970) 101). Built while Willian Chadwell Mylne (1781 - 1863) was the company's Engineer.
