YALDING DEN LANE Tg 74 NW (north side) Collier Street 4/89 Barn about 35 metres south- west of Den Farmhouse II

Barn. Late C16 or early C17, with later (probably C19) addition to right. Timber framed, weatherboarded, on rendered stone plinth. Plain tile roof. 6 timber-framed bays, built at right-angles to, but set back from, Lane; four to left (south) late C16 or early C17, two to right (one very short) added, probably in late C18 or in C19. Midstrey to fourth timber-framed bay from right (second from right end of C16 or early C17 section). Roof gabled to left, half-hipped to right. Full-height double doors towards centre. Low single door towards right end, with small two-light casement beside it. Rear lean-to, open to rear (west), with posts on padstones (forming 5 bays). Wooden feeding troughs to two left end bays. Interior: gunstock-jowled posts. Arch-braced tie-beams. (Tie-beam between two added bays truncated). Clasped-purlin roof with windbraces, diminishing principal rafters, and vertical queen struts to collars to C16 or early C17 section. Clasped-purlin roof with ridge piece to right end bays, in smaller-scantling timber. Principal posts ledged for cross beams for former floor to two right bays and mortices for partitions under corresponding tie-beams. Mortices for diamond mullion windows under wall-plates of right end bays of C16 or early C17 section, but timber possibly re-used. Tension braces above midrail. Two- light mullion window with pegged cill to right gable end. Den Farmhouse not listed.
