Pair of entrance lodges, gates and perimeter walls. c1813 by Edward Holl, architect for the Navy Board. Yellow stock bricks with rubbed brick heads and hipped slate roofs, stone dressings and iron gates. Rectangular single-depth plan lodges face each other across the inner side of gateway. Lodges each a single storey; 5-window range; rubbed brick flat arches to 6/6-pane sashes, and end doorways with flush 4-panel doors. Gateway has openwork iron piers decorated with anchors and telescopes, swept gates and wickets either side within short lengths of railing, with spear finials; plain brick piers and coped wall with interval piers. Subsidiary features: W alls extend for approximately 200 metres either side of the gateway parallel with the front of the Royal School of Music. Encloses the forecourt to the Royal School of Music (qv), formerly a naval hospital.
